anything temporary. Word pause holds on each space so you can review a word at a time;
Stream
types continuously. ⌨ Pace (muscle-memory mode) shows you each word's dotted length ahead, and you
reveal it yourself at your own rhythm with Space / → (go back with ←,
restart with R) — moving your fingers as you recall builds better memory.
Eyes take in a group of words per glance, not one at a time. The Group setting (1–5 words) batches exactly that many per fix. Reading in bigger groups cuts the number of stressful fixations per line.
The latest word group is highlighted at the reading edge. A visible landing-zone for your eyes stops them drifting or re-scanning (regression) — the #1 natural speed killer.
Choosing your rate in words per minute (WPM beats abstract percentages) lets you set an honest, comparable target and push it up over sessions like a metronome.
Focus gently dims already-read text. When the words you've seen fade, your attention is pushed back to the line you're on — less rechecking, more forward flow.
Combine them: “⚡ Speed-read” + a 3–4 word group + Focus on gives a smooth forward-only reading flow. Use Stream / Word pause to slow into tough sections, and ⌨ Pace to actively recall. Quick wins: keep your eyes moving, never whisper along (sub-vocalise), and skim a heading before each paragraph.
