Privacy Notice — Road Quality Map
Last updated: September 2026. This notice is written for India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
What we collect
- Accelerometer and device-orientation readings, used to estimate road roughness.
- GPS location while you are actively recording, used to place readings on the map.
- Your selected mount and vehicle type, used to interpret the sensor signal.
- A randomly generated device identifier stored in your browser, used only to de-duplicate rides.
What we do not collect
- No name, email, phone number, or account. There is no login.
- No microphone or camera access.
- No background location. Recording only runs while the page is open and you have started it.
How your data is treated
- Raw traces are trimmed by roughly 500 m at both ends on your device, before upload, so trip start and end points are not stored.
- Only aggregated scores per road segment are published on the map. Individual traces are never shown publicly.
- Data is stored on servers used to operate this tool and is not sold or shared for advertising.
- You can clear all locally stored data at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site.
Retention
Aggregated segment scores are kept indefinitely so the map stays useful. Raw traces are retained only as long as needed to reprocess scores.
Accuracy disclaimer
Scores are relative and device-dependent. They are not a certified International Roughness Index (IRI) measurement and must not be used as a sole basis for engineering, contracting, or safety decisions.
